MultiAdaptor
Lead UX/UI Designer
2019
DeepMind are a Google owned world leading artificial inteligence company, working towards the scientific breakthrough of some of humanities biggest challenges. To coinced with the launch of their new visual identity created by MultiAdaptor we redesigned their website to better reflect who they were as a company and provide their audiences with a richer seemless online experience.
Using analytics from DeepMinds previous website and their key user personas we restructured the site to give easy access to the content people were looking for. The key personas were defined as AI specialists, technology interested, curious public and job seekers. DeepMinds wealth of varied content was now easily accessible for its users.
Before wireframe creation we looked at how DeepMinds content could be presented conceptually, taking the home page as our starting point. This process not only helped pre-define the overall site experience but also engaged the client and development partners in early discussions around the final sites ambition.
Once the overall concept was agreed upon we set out creating a full set of high-fidelity wireframes across multiple breakpoints. We built a working prototype in InVision to put into user testing with real users from DeepMind and Google. We created a selection of real-life scenarios for our users to go through to test our thinking. These users were actual AI reaserachers and technologists which gave us invaluable feedback and insights which we could then apply to our designs.
With a new visual identitiy to work with, we created a clean and accessible design system that was also as rich and vibrant as the new brand. Built in Kintato, Googles inhouse CMS the site was designed using reusable modular components and multiple card styles to display different content. Two bespoke typefaces crafted in collaboration with the Colophon team helped create a strong typographic editorial style across all pages and content blocks. The new colour palette was utilised to help differentiate key sections of the site, change viewing modes and ebable users to quickly locate themselves. A new reportage style of photography was used to capture the culture of DeepMind and give an insight into their collaborative teams.
